Hope and Love

Since the last entry my nephew has been clean for 27 days and his head still seems to be in the right place, even though when he attended an AA meeting and an ignorant man told him he didn’t belong at that meeting it was the wrong 12 step program for him. I am still with him 24/7, hang on to all his money, and the urges are starting to lessen. We still have a long way to go, but he is starting to feel better about himself. It has been rather humorous he is required to drop 2 to 3 times a week and each time it comes up clean a little faster. After dropping the test showed that he was clean before he even got out of the bathroom he got into the car and said “They have to know when you’ve been using even if you test clean because I used to have to wait about 5 minutes for it to show I was clean.” He really thought he was getting around the system.

Then we attended a vigil for Dominick the four years old that was beaten and tortured for 4 days by his mother’s boyfriend. This year was more a celebration of his life and the warmth of knowing hundreds of people helping to make others aware of child abuse. There was a short time when a local girl sang “Concrete Angel” that the pictures of the day Dominick died went threw my head. That little body so badly broken, burned, bruised and a stocking cap that covered his protruding brain where his skull had been removed to allow the swelling as we all put our hands on him and prayed as the life support equipment was unplugged and he went to our lord.

In memory of Dominick the blue ribbon of pinwheels to remind us that we can help prevent child abuse.
